Other Camp Activities
In addition to the world dance and music classes, taking some time while at Folklore Camp to explore the beautiful nature setting of the Woodlands is a must do. There are marked hiking trails (easy and difficult), old-growth Redwood trees to visit, peaceful sunny meadows to explore, flora and fauna, cool streams (swimming holes!) and a fascinating Lilly pond with resident Beavers. The Woodlands naturalist staff also provides opportunities during Folklore Camp for guided hikes, early bird watching walks and an annual trip to the coast for tide pooling (tides permitting).
Afternoon free-time at Folklore Camp, doesn't mean there's nothing to do if so inclined. Many play board games, cards or Backgammon (a camp favorite). We also encourage volunteering while at camp, becoming involved is part of our community atmosphere. There are many afternoon options; like serving on a party committee (decorating and crafting, bar set-up for happy hour), and helping with dinner set up (flower arranging, table decorating, place settings). In other words, helping us make a bit of magic happen in the Redwoods. Or perhaps a little r&r time with a trip into Mendocino for browsing, shopping, checking your emails at the coffeehouse internet cafe. Of course there's always curling up in a good book next to the fire in your cabin, or on hot days taking a trip to the swimming hole (another right of passage at Folklore Camp). |
